Haha, stocks at the right time? Real Estate in the right locale? If it was that easy we would all be doing it and filthy rich.

If you truly want to put money to work do what you know. If you know alot about something then you'll have a heads up when things start going bad. (Don't think you know a lot about something if you can't even ask the right questions to find your answers)

Today: open a high yielding savings account or purchase a 6 month CD and start making some interest. It is easy, simple, and risk free. Continue to save and be frugal in your personal life.

Short term: Start with a growing personal education. Reading books, listening to audios, attending seminars, or any other serious mechanism for wealth education is where you want to start. (not a get rich scheme, less than 5ys!) I would justify a personal education as money well spent for investment purposes. (knowledge is your insurance) Expand your knowledge and listen to all sorts of authors on a broad range of topics.

Longer term: Find what your passionate towards and focus on ways to generate a passive income. This may be a plethora of opportunities such as your own business, website, book deal, stocks, bonds, real estate, or something else that makes you energetic and puts money into your pocket.

The best way to invest is to find a way to do it on a regular basis. By getting in the habit of paying your self first, your money will grow faster and compound interest will be working for you. You could invest in a mutual fund (many are fairly safe) and it could be set up for automatic withdrawals from a checking account so investments will be regular, also by investing like this, you can get to your funds in an emergency, but not so easily that you won't be tempted to withdraw to soon. I've used a Primerica agent to find a suitable investment that I would be comfortable with.
