Is it safe to invest money with CountryWide FSB especially considering what they have been going through? |
I know they are FDIC insured but I understand if CountryWide go bust any claims take a very long time With investing I mean purchase of CD's you are correct. If they do go belly up, it will take a while for FDIC to cover your CDs, and they will not cover the interest only the principle. Now Bank America has taken a very large position in Country Wide. I would be somewhat surprised if they were to allow Country Wide to go belly up. There is however the possibility that Country Wide might drag BAC down with it. For sure the dust is a very long way from settling in this fiasco. You need to be more specific... what kind of investment are you talking about? I wouldn't have anything to do with Countrywide. Their CD's have very high rates right now because they are desperate for deposits to cover the bad loans they've made. Stay away from them until they get their act together...and I don't see that happening anytime soon. |
