Good question!
I was almost your age when I started investing in stocks.
Verizon costs about $46.00 a share. In the past 52 weeks, the stock has traded between $34 and $46 a share. (I bought it back when it was $34!)
Verizon also pays a dividend, which means that they pay you to invest in their stock! It currently pays a 3.8% dividend. So every 3 months, you get a little bit of money from them.
Also, it is very smart to invest when you are young. That way you gain a lot of experience!
To open an account, you need a parent or legal guardian to open the account for you. Their name will be on their account, and so will yours.
Since you are under 18, the account will need to be set up as "Uniform Gift to Minors Act."
Depending on what 'brokerage' you open your account at, they will charge you different fees.
Every time you buy stock, they charge you. And every time you sell, they charge you. Scottrade is the cheapest, and they only charge $7 to buy, and $7 to sell.
Scottrade also requires very little money to open an account. You need to deposit $500. Other brokerage firms force you to invest more!
Let me know if you have more questions! I'll certainly do my best to answer them. You can click on my name, then click on the option to email me.

Open a brokerage account at TD Ameritrade and buy VZ. (This is the symbol for Verizon)
