Investing in ADRs?

I was thinking about investing in the ADR GOLD, what is everyone's thoughts on ADRs?

ADR just means that you're buying a foreign company's stock. You may have to pay some fees for your trading activity but they are small.
Why gold ADR's. I favor telecomm ADR's such as VIP, MBT, XING. Not many land lines overseas but lots and lots of people (billions) with cell phones and that business can go nowhere but up,
Some of these stocks are up perhaps 12000% over the last 8 years or so.
Do research before you by anything and definitely don't take any pundit's word for what to buy without your own research.
