How risky is it, to invest in gold?

investment on GOLD on long terms is a good idea.
Mostly Indian (conservative - majority believe in saving than spend) usually opt for investment in Gold.

CD account will not give you return on par with inflation - it is an aged (old) man's available safe option.

Trading in Gold (commodities) always very risky. Now dollar is falling - Gold is shinning. reverse cycle is not ruled out when America economy (largest economy) regain its strength (it will happen in 9 to 12 months time).

When crude price goes up, OPEC (countries) invest large amount in GOLD After winter season crude prices are likely to fall drastically, at that time, OPEC will release GOLD to meet their commitments (to balance - balance of trade) at that time (during SUMMER) the GOLD prices will hit and DOLLAR demand will raise.

right time of selling GOLD is during recession/WINTER, etc.,

Commodities are always a risky business. If you have some reason to believe that gold is going to go up in value against the dollar, then bet some money on it, but I wouldn't sink everything into it.

risk is directly proportional to knowledge. study gold investing from several independent sources and learn the subject. then make your choice. gold traditionally has been a store house of value meaning that it holds it's value under most any economic conditions. i hold 20% of my portfolio in gold bullion.

You buy gold and put it into a safe deposit box. Where it earns no interest. Inflation marches on friend.

That 100 bucks you spent on the gold coin is worth a little less every day due to inflation. Its kind of like burying a wad of bills in a jar in your back yard.

On the other hand, gold is gold. Gold will always be worth "something", even if the market crashes and civilization collapses.

I would strongly urge you not to buy it now. My grandfather sunk a lot of money into gold in the seventies when it was up. Then the price fell through the floor. It never got back up to the price he paid for it in his lifetime.

Gold is a terrible long-term investment.
