Does it make sense to go for a CPA after an MBA? |
My specialization is really investments. I'm not too movile at the moment to go somewhere and look for a job in investments. The jobs around here are mostly in accounting. Should I attempt taking some classes and take the CPA exam to broaden my opportunities and have a back-up career, or should I stick to what I have? You should absolutely become a CPA. You see the most successful CFP's are also CPA's. You will be handling their taxes and bookkeeping, it is so easy to gain them as investment clients when you already handle so much else. College planning, debt elimination, wealth creation, retirement, these things are discussed with your accountant, but a Financial Planner is the one who capitalizes on them, so I say go for it. There is no harm in taking an exam. The important thing is that you can practicalise what you claim to know. |
