Job Question : Actuary,?

Hi, I'm a college student who's studying math and econ. I recently heard about Actuary job. Sounds pretty cool for me since I like probability and statistics. I wanna know how stable this job is compared to Investment Banking or Consulting.

As I know, it's really hard to survive in IB(investment bank) and they really can't work long enough. How about actuary?
Is it stable job? Or how about compared to accountant?

I was thinking about pursuing master degree of Accounting. Cause accounting is comparatively stable job in a long run. I can open my own office after 10-15 yrs also.

Actuary sounds cool cause usually they are paid more than accountants while they don't need t work as super-hard as Investment Banker. (It depends though)

Am I correctly aware of actuary? Or not.
Please let me know.

Fully qualified actuaries pass nine difficult examinations (in the US; number may differ in other countries), mostly during their first six years of working. A fully qualified actuary will likely earn more than an accountant, but less than a good investment banker who can make enormous bonuses when they are really good.

I think job stability (chances of not being fired in poor times) is best for accountants, who are not usually fired in poor times. Investment bankers are more often fired during poor times. Actuaries are in the middle.

Actuarial and accounting work is often seasonal - during busy seasons they work lots of hours. Investment bankers always seem to work lots of hours.

Consultants or independents in any of these three areas need to be good at getting new clients. When they are busy they will work enormous hours, but their pay will be commensurate. When they are not busy, they are not making money.

You can take the first few actuarial exams while in college. That will tell you pretty quickly if you have the math ability for actuarial.

Keep taking lots of math and finance, and keep your options open.
