Are IRAs (US) or ISAs (UK) (retirement accounts) subject to inheritence tax?

Are retirement accounts that are based on tax free fund investment (which are then taxed upon withdrawal of the money) subject to inheritence tax?

i was told that the account was not considered part of the estate...? or is it only not considered part of your estate wrt to the will, not tax?

USA - they are NOT a part of the estate for estate tax purposes.

Each beneficiary will include the TAXABLE portion of the funds on their individual tax returns. 401K's and IRA's are taxable to the beneficiaries in the same manner and proportion as if the participant had been the one withdrawing the funds.

ISAs are...don't know about American stuff but if you are a UK resident then your worlwide assets I believe are subject to inheritance tax.

Yes, IRA's would be in the US.

depends on if its a Roth IRA or a traditional IRA. Roth IRA's have already had the Tax paid on them, traditional IRA's do not.
