Please help Roth IRA investment at age 21? |
I am 21 years old, and I have a Roth IRA account with Vanguard and I have been contributing to the Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund and have about 2k in it so far. I know it is considered a "core" fund and it has had about 9-10% returns over the past 10 years but I have doubts if that is a good fund for my age, what do you guys think? Is this an appropriate fund for me? There is no way to truely answer this without doing a risk profile on you. Most people will invest their retirement money in a higher risk fund while they're young and then move it towards more conservative investments as they get older. My best advice would be to consult an investment professional. it is a great fund even at your age. you might consider adding to an international fund as well. That's a fine fund for now. Just keep on adding to your ROTH as much as you can every year (don't forget). As you get older and your ROTH balance grows you can transfer some of the money into other Vanguard funds. Perhaps some more agressive growth funds like Vanguards's Growth and Income or Internationl Value (mentioned above). But your already ahead of the game by starting early, keep up the good work! |
