We're expecting a baby within the next month. is it possible ...?

to open an investment account in the baby's name (once she's born of course)? I'm not looking for 529 plan, or ESA. just a plain account that I control till she turns 18? Is what I'm asking possible?

Thanks.

I am not sure if a minor can have an investment account in their own name.

Usually you, the parent or grandparent would open an account as Trustee for baby x. When the child attains 18 the account reverts to them solely. The child is the beneficial owner and the trustee cannot withdraw money for their own uses (hard to prove) The child's tax details apply, and in the uk if the parents give more than a certain level the interest is taxed as if it were the parents income. (not grandparents however)

Sure! Lots of kids have one.

Surely... You can have..what you are thinking is very much possible and in practice.
