What is the best way of investment if you had $10,000 sitting in your checking account?

Interest rates are really low right now. I'm wondering if there are other methods (low risk) that I can take to get a return that is a little higher than savings/CD accounts.

if you do not have a roth ira -- put 5K in it for the 2007 tax year and 5k for the 2008 tax year -- even at 4% since the interest in not taxable you will be reaping a great return!!!

Overseas Mutual Funds...www.americancentury.com

CDs in Countrywide bank are good. 90 days for 6.5% to 7% cannot get better with no risk whatsoever.

That depends on your risk tolerance (which sounds low) and your time frame for needing the money. Short term you can use an online bank (ING Direct provides a good return and is FDIC insured). If you have a longer time horizon, a good mutual fund with some overseas exposure would be good.

Good luck.

Go to a Smith Barney office or similiar, get started on a Roth IRA, you could go ahead and do your 2007 max and 2008...I forget the dollar figures at the max but you could cover both years and still have some left over. Invest in mutual funds.

the law of money..low risk.low reward.............high risk(sometimes) high reward..............
you have to give up some safety to get more..........
