RRSP in Canada, how much saving is enough? |
I'm single, mid 30's and make 100k to 120k a year. Fundamentally, you need to determine the following: Being a parent myself I could understand why you save for your daughter. But this does not mean that you could not live a little. I mean what is your values set at. I have some friends who thinks and values life more than anything and they spent what they have and live a moderate simple life with very little luxury. To them wages that feed and put a roof over the head is enough. On the other hand i have friends who come from a hard like who values money more than anything. To them saving for a rainy day is very important and stressed this even upon their children and you can see them becoming very ambitious. Neither one or the other is wrong it is just different ways people places their values and live their life. Honestly taking the middle road and not being too extreme on both side seems to be good as you will not miss out on life and at the same time being cautious. It is up to you to decide. To me you sound very tired and have look at your friends life and are already starting to wonder what if????? This usually lead to regrets. So take a step back and talk to your daughter see what she have to say and see if she is able to support herself and the decision will come easy. Should you quit now can you retrace your step or maybe there would be other options you could do. All is not lost. It is up to you to gain the confidence on what to do. I hope this will help You need to figure out exactly what you want your living expenses to be. If you want to live cheap you don't need to save as much. If you want to live very comfortably.. save a lot. |
