Savings/buying a home? |
I'm 27 and have about $18,000 in mutual funds, saving, 401K, I would like to buy a home in the next year or two. I'm unsure what is the best way to go about it. I currently save a little over $1000 a month that goes into savings and investments. Am I better off to put the money I want to buy a house with in mutual funds (mostly over seas in the past 2 years I've averaged 30-45% returns) or just in CD's? I want to make money while I'm waiting to get established in my job before I buy a house. Any advice would be great. I don't want to take away from retirement money to buy a house. I have great credit, so a loan wont be a problem. CD's or money market accts - but you should lesson your retirement contributions so you can rapidly build up your home purchase funds.....and then immediately start an emergency fund that covers six months or so of all your expenses....THEN go back to maximizing your retirement accts.... |
