If the Inland Revenue have NOT sent you a tax return, even though they know your address etc should I go?

somewhere and get a form myself, fill it in and send it off anyway. I am not earning, and only have a small income from investment etc and i never have never had any tax to pay in recent years. In the past i was self employed and they always sent me Returns. Please advice if you know what you are talking about. Many thanks.

It's always a good idea to keep records current with the lovely folk at HM Revenue & Customs -- not least to make sure they know you're not earning. Give them a call (the folk on the phone are very pleasant to deal with) and explain that you haven't had a form.
You'll need to have something to prove your ID before they'll access your records: your tax office reference number, or your national insurance number. Once they've done that, they'll be able to tell you whether you need to fill in a tax return.

This is one of those times when a phone call is probably going to get faster results than emails. The self-assessment helpline is: 0845 900 0444. If you want to look stuff up online, head for http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/

It is your responsibility to to complete and file tax returns ..not the tax mans. If you do not send forms and any tax on time you will end up with a fine....whether or not the tax office has sent you any documents or not.

There is a minimum income level which I think is 拢3,500. Anything below this figure is NOT tax deductable. So if your investments earn you no more that 拢3,499.99 per year, you don;t have to pay tax.
