you buy stock when you have money you don't need and when you can handle risk

saving money? don't waste money

retirement accounts? 401k, IRA

Credit Cards - apply

Debit Cards - apply

long or short term investment - Stock Market

Sounds like you need to take a visit to the library and check out books from the following advisors:

David Ramsey
Susie Orman
David Bach

They will educate you on each subject. Once you've established what you want to do, I would go to a trusted financial advisor (ask your friends) and get advice on how to invest your money. Good luck.

Take some time to visit Investopedia, a website devoted to investor education. Check out the tutorials and some of the articles, this should answer a lot of your questions. You might also want to purchase the Series 7 study materials, it is a great reference, you can purchase it for a fair price on eBay. I have provided the link to Investopedia below, I hope this helped.

Best of luck!

i'll answer your question about stocks.

You don't necessarily need to trade stocks, you may trade other things easier and with less start up money.

You can open a forex account with forex.com or another brokerage to trade currencies. You can open such an account with only $250.

If you're going to trade, I recommend the following book: "The Trading Rule that can make you rich" by Edward Dobson.

For a newbie, you need this book. It described the 50% retracement rule, which is the simplest and most reliable way to trade.

Good luck.
