Quicken, is it any good?

I'm thinking of using Quicken this year to manage my finances. I'm wondering if the program is worth while or is their is any open source software that is just as good. This year, I almost had to pay taxes instead of getting a return if it wasn't for my hope credit for going back to school. I'm trying to prevent that this year by increasing what I pay in bi-weekly and more carefully managing my finances and hopefully increasing my investments. Any words of advice?

YES! I have used it for years!!!! I use Quicken for our personal accounts, track hove my investments are doing (based on their closing prices), & balance my checkbook. It's really easy - just like an electronic checkbook.

I use QuickBooks for our corporation. I also use it for my bookkkeeping clients. It is more complicated and overkill for individuals. I like the Windows version much better than the MAC version.

Quicken is great. It tracks your bank accounts almost as simply as maintaining a check register.

You also mention investments. Quicken is real good with investments, too. It will allow you to keep track of your basis, gains/losses, etc.

I recommend you get Quicken.

If you don't use Quicken, my mom swears by TurboTax as the best for her. I'm using TaxCut by H&R Block because it was cheaper and I'm liking it.
