I don't know how to fit my resume to 1 page! It's two pages right now.?

So on my resume I have alot of info, and I've heard it has to be one page. Our career fair is coming up and i heard that it is vital to have it be 1 page. Also for investment banking firms I heard they only look at 1 page resumes. Any suggestions on how to cut it down? or a good format? Or does anyone have good resume experience and can help me?

Thanks

I am a junior in college, and I have education, professional exp, volunteer experience, organizations and clubs, and skills

How long the resume' is should depend on your experience and what you've accomplished. If you work history is relevant, put it on two pages. My resume' runs 3-4 pages and I've been told it's a page turner. I've seen then as long as eight pages (that long, it'd better be REAL interesting).

If your looking for a position that requires experience, go to multiple pages. Looking for an entry level job that your work history is not relevant, cut out detail and go to one page.

Good luck, remember recruiters hire people they like and trust. A good attitude goes a long way.

Well, it depends on why it's so long; you didn't elaborate. Do you have a lot of education or a long career history? Are you including special skills?

Basically, include an objective, career history, education history (if recent enough to be important), special skills (if any pertinent to your job), and a line "References are available upon request."

It is not always true that your resume has to be on one page. It all depends how much schooling and job experience you have. It is okay to have 2 pages. Make sure you don't have any unnecessary mumbo jumbo though. I am 36 and there is no way I could have a 1 page resume. Put the most important and most recent items on your resume. Get rid of any jobs that were a long time ago or jobs you did not work at for a long period of time. Keep all school history.

Some basic principles:

Do not try to be everything to everyone. Have your job search narrowed down to a couple of occupational areas based on your career goals, education, and experience. The contents of your resume should be targeted toward your goals.
Keep it brief! One to two pages is acceptable - your resume should not be an autobiography.
Describe your accomplishments positively and accurately. This is not the place for modesty or exaggeration. Use quantities, amounts, dollar values where they enhance the description.
There are no absolute rules regarding resume format, only guidelines. Pick a format that best highlights your relevant skills and accomplishments that match your career objective.
Lead with your strengths! Put your most relevant experiences toward the top of your resume.
Don't limit the resume content to just your work experience. There are many transferable skills that you develop through volunteer positions, involvement in student and professional organizations, and through class projects. In many cases, we do our best work on volunteer positions as they involve activities we really enjoy doing.
Omit personal pronouns, such as "I," "me," "my," etc.
Omit all personal data, such as height, weight, marital status, age, health, etc.
Don't mention salary or wages on your resume.
Do not include personal references as a part of your resume. Rather, have available at least three references on a separate sheet to be provided when asked for by an employer.
Always send a neatly typed cover letter with your resume to explain why you are submitting your resume.
Visual presentation counts. Maintain an eye-pleasing balance. Be creative without being bizarre. Once you have drafted your resume, complete the process by adding professionalism to the final format. Use a good laser printer and quality paper. Do not use a dot matrix printed resume. Career Services has a laser printer which may be used for free by UWRF students and alumni.
Make sure that your resume and cover letter have no typing or grammatical errors. Employers consistently cite this as the first reason why they eliminate an applicant. The care with which you present yourself suggests the care with which you would approach your work.
Always carry extra copies of your resume with you during your job search.

Just put the basics list the schools, clubs and organizations, special skills but use key words in job descriptions to keep them short. If you put everything down on the resume, you'll have nothing to elaborate on in your interview.
