Explaining why I've been working temp!!!?

Morning everyone, I have a job interview at an Investment Bank as a Administrative Assistant, and I鈥檓 a bit nervous. Although, I鈥檝e been doing this for a while I鈥檓 always nervous about interviewing. Right now I鈥?need to ask a question.

I鈥檝e been temping as a Secretary for the past 2 years and I know that it looks bad on my part and employers would want to know why. I鈥檝e held permanent jobs as long as 5 years. But I need a good explanation as to why I鈥檝e been temping for so long.

In all honesty, I was laid off my last job and got cold feet and thought it would be a good thing to work temp to perm, as you see it hasn鈥檛 been going that way and I ended up having to temp at 4 different places for the past 2 years. I need help explaining that and I鈥檓 not able to come up with a good explanation. Can someone help me?!!.

Working for a temp agency is not all that bad. If you worked for the same temp agency for the last 2 years then really that is good thing. It still shows consistency. Temp agencies appreciate a person who shows up to their assignments. So, you are showing that you are a dependable worker. And in today's job market, it's not all that uncommon for people to have been working at a temp agency as you already experienced with your layoff. I recommend that people work for a staffing agency for the same reason you stated above. It gives you and the potential employer a trial period to see if the working relationship is a good one. Remember, focus on your strengths no matter what. Don't let this stand in the way of having a good interview. Keep it in perspective with everything that you have to offer an employer.

first have u been lied in u age or is it u try too hard to hold one over u own commitments after hours, second it can sound like discriminating u over one,but if u hold all the criteria u dint need to answer for one u dint want to hold as u might be still leaning to get in the rut that holds it all to be atter the top.

It seems like the truth is very close to a great answer. I would suggest that when you were laid off the other job, you were knew that temping would be a good way to sharpen your skills while keeping your job search targeted to a very short list of targeted companies... or something like that. Temping doesn't have to look bad, unless you convey that were doing it because you just couldn't do anything else.

Just tell them that you had left a bad situation/environment at the 5 year company. You thought that a good way to get your feet wet again and test the waters was to do some temp work. Now you are ready to take on something permanent.

The truth can't hurt, just leave those positions as temp positions and capitalize on whatever experience and new things you have learned in each job. The other thing is that if you have stayed with the same temp agency, this will help you, as they liked your work and the clients were happy- they continued to place you.

Good Luck.
