What would be a good investment for $5000?

Bank interest takes a while to get anything, an dhte reaturns aren't that great.

What would be a good $5000 investment that would yield a decent return rate, even if it is reasonably risky?

Depending on where you live, use the money for a downpayment on a rental property, or a personal residence. I quit working at the age of 28 (3years ago) and live off of rental property that I purchased through my 20's. I saved every penny I had for down payments on new propertys. Now I save to pay them off.

I agree with the 1st responder. A couple of good mutual funds or index funds should yield you about 10% annually if you are patient. Fidelity, T Rowe Price are a couple to investigate. Perhaps $2500 in two different funds to give yourself best possible chance.
