Recommendations for a student to become more familiarized with Wall Street and the world of investment banking

I am sophomore in college by the way. And yes, I am a business student, however, in my school we don't get to take any finance course until junior year. So my question is about self-education, what are the best resources out there that I can utilize to build-up my knowledge about Wall Street. I am a subscriber to the WSJ but most of the things that I try to read there seem like foreign concepts to me, still. I know that I will get better with time, I'm just a little impatient and I am trying to speed up the process.
Thank you so much to those that have taken the time to answer my question already, I really appreciate your input.

I remember when I was a student I was wanting to know the same thing. I suggest by reading the business section of the news papers, get to know the terms of the game such as buy, sell, hold...etc, etc. Also it wouldn't hurt by going to a store and buying a Business Week magazine and just read the topics. Know what drives earnings and what makes this company go up or down. How the economic factors affect the market of the NYSE. Also a great way of knowing stocks and it's terms is to get a Investers Business Daily. They are a great way of knowing what the tables are and what each number means.
Check out books like Investing for dummies type of books. These books will teach you all the other stuff you'll want to know.
If you have cable TV, check out CNBC on your television, you can see the market actually working infront of your eyes. Perhaps you'll understand what drives Apple (APPL) to high share prices and you'll understand what drives stocks down (bad earnings, downgrades...)

I used to be in your shoes, get to know the basics, this is the best way of understanding how investments work and Wall Street.

Good luck

marketwatch.com vse.marketwatch.com read financial papers and sites, like fianance.yahoo.com smartstocks.com thestreet.com wsj.com (wall street journal)

just do research and more research. you'll eventually get an idea.

I strongly suggest reading various terms and definitions at investopedia.com

This is a free site. The information is VAST and very informative.

Ask your teachers/professors for recommendations. Use the school library or the public library system in your area.

IF you are fortunate enough to live near a college or university with a business school or finance course, take a few courses and pick the professors' brains! You are paying for an education, PLEASE make the most AND best of it!

Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed taking the time to answer it!

Yes, that is my real last name!

I think you would be better off subscribing to Investors Business Daily instead of the Wall St Journal from an educational perspective.

They are more investor friendly and have a proprietary ranking system off all stocks (mainly percentiles) which gives a clear picture of whats hot and whats not, and they frequently tell you why in their news articles.
