What are all the different parts of investment banking?

i know that there are different divisions but could someone explain to me what each one is and what they do (long descriptive answers would be appreciated)

this if my field! We basically have i'd say 3 primary different divisions and I will break them down for you.
1) M & A (mergers and acquisitions)- this area is quite self explanatory. We make the bulk of our money executing complex deals. When another companie wants to acquire a stake in a company of buy out another companie, they use an investment bank to help execute the deal. The same when two companies plan on merging together. We make that deal happen.

2) IPO (initial public offering)- when a company plans on going public, they go straight to an investment bank.Bankers are trained to execute these deals. They take the executive officers through all the steps of offering securities to the public.

3) corporate advisory - when executives feel that they need assistance in growing their company or enhancing their share price, they come to an investment bank for advice. Typically, we help them restructure by cutting effectively cutting costs, restructuring liabilites etc.
