Stockbroking/investment banking?

whats the difference

This question is so vast and there is a wide range of areas both interact in...but here is my simple example.....
Investment Banks...help companies and governments raise money by issuing/selling securities in the primary market. Also provide strategic advisory services to corporations/governments for services like mergers, acquisitions, etc.
Stockbrokers...They buy/sell stock for themselves and clients. They are the middle man between matching stock buyers and sellers. They also offer advice to clients on what to buy/sell. Because a typical person can't just walk on the New York Stock Exchange for example, all of the buying/selling has to be done through a broker.

investment banking is broader - usually used to describe the advisory part of banking (e.g. corporate finance for M&A or project finance for infrastructure projects). most investment banks have a stockbroking division.

stockbroking is a lot narrower. All a stockbroker does is find buyers and selllers for shares, and then execute the transaction - it's a middle man function. Think used casr sales man, but richer and more complex :) Stockbroking firms also produce a lot of research.
