What dose investment banking means?

Investment bankers facilitate the creation and sale of debt and equity on the public capital markets. The value the worth of a firm's stocks and bonds, buy them, then sell them out to the public and to other financial institutions. They advise the firm on how to do this, how much money they can raise, and assist them in doing so - they run a roadshow for an IPO, for example, or help sell the firm's bonds.
In essence, they help firms raise capital through the issuing of stocks and bonds.

Investment banking means the bringing of shares to the market and providing a stable, steady market for same.

Division of banking encompassing business entities dealing with creation of capital for other companies. In addition to acting as agents or underwriters for companies in the process of issuing securities, investment banks also advise companies on matters related to the issue and placement of stock.
