Corporate Lawyer or Investment Banker?

I'm currently finishing my JD/MBA and am trying to decide which direction to go. Prior to law school I was a Personal Consumer Banker. I'm trying to base my decision upon salary, hours of work, advancement opportunities, stress, etc... There is a newer regional investment bank and several fairly large law firms in Omaha. I'm trying to decide where to intern this summer. Also, is it easier to switch from I banking to practicing law or from law to I banking?

You know banks have in-house lawyers for many different reasons, too.

I-Banking more $$$, interesting note, this year because of the mortgage fall-out highest number of financial services job lay-offs including I-Banking. You can switch also after a couple years if you have the right pedigree. Good luck I hope you have the grades and credentials to make it if thats what you want to do, either one is ultra-competitive to land a job.

Are there any Investment banks in Omaha?? Wont you have to move to New York or California?

As a lawyer I would go into Investment Banking or investments. There are a lot of lawyers who feel dissapointed with the opportunities in law.

I personally would not have done it all over again if I had the choice. I would have gone into something else, maybe medicine.

I have changed my opinion on life and I will share that. If its going to work and your going to have success, you will have success and it will work for you right away. If you find the legal job market "stupid," "racist" and "constricting" as I have found it by all means dont keep banging your head against the wall, go for something else like Investment banking and never look back!!
