Does someone have to work for an investment bank in order to take the series 63, 65 or 66?

I heard if form U10 is completed you need not already work for an investment firm. Correct?
Are they all equally easy? Sample questions I have seen on websites seem pretty easy.
Is there a long wait list to be able to take one of these exams?

I am going to just assume. That you will need to be sponsored from some company. To do your job. But, If I remember, U-10 is for you to own a investment advisor firm? I don't know.
