What is the best investment bank to work for?

I live in london. dont mind if its a european or american investment bank.

when i say best i mean in terms of salary, treatment of staff, just an overall nice place to work

Morgan Stanley. Goldman pays more, but you also work longer hours (same with Lehman). JPMorgan is cutting back salaries with Dimon there.

You don't actually have that choice...an investment bank will choose YOU based on your track record (if you have one), so sharpen your skills and take whatever position you are offered. No-one in the investment industry expects loyalty, so your reward will be based on your performance; they all know that if they do not sufficiently reward you for performance, you will move to another "house"...

Well, I suppose it depends on if you are just starting out and what area you want to work in.

I have friends who were very happy at Goldman and also JP Morgan got good reviews. But really, a lot depends on if you want to use it to be a stepping stone to money mangement or if you want to work in a particular area, say trading, M&A, etc.
