Good investments ftse 100?

hi all. i want to invest about 2-5k in shares from the FTSE 100, and i want a steady profit, which is not going up and down every 20 mins like some are, i want one(or two) to get a good (hopefully quite good) outcome by about april, when i will possibly take it out. any suggestions for companies? cheers. chris...

great. that is kind of thing i meant, is there a website that has an overview of the beta's in like a table or something? cheers

What everyone "wants" does not apply to anything over which we have no control.

Free markets like stock markets, are free to fluctuate, and that's what they do. What you describe should be invested in some fixed return instrument, like a CD or bank deposit, and that is the only way you can presume a "good outcome by April."

If you insist on investing in the stock market, what you are looking for are less volitile stocks that have a low Beta, meaning less than 1. On the Yahoo Finance page, enter a stock symbol. You will find the beta listing under Key Statistics.

A beta of 1 indicates that the security's price will move with the market. A beta of less than 1 means that the security will be less volatile than the market. A beta of greater than 1 indicates that the security's price will be more volatile than the market.
