How to say I have been fired during a job interview? |
I was fired after 1 year at working at the same company and the reason was because I was sick all the time. obviously this is not the reason the company alleges, even though I was fired while off sick, which is illegal in the country I was based. Please note that I did produce medical certificates when I was sick. The last time I was off sick, when I got fired, I spoke to my doctor and expressed my fear of losing my job and still she wanted me to take a month or so off sick I decided to take a week and was fired in the meantime. The company claims that they never received the certificate not that I havent produced it. Its best to be honest with Headhunters. I was a headhunter for years - and honestly, we could always tell if something was a bit fishy. The thing is, if your honest with the headhunters they'll understand - these things happen and will also be able to suggest what to say in interview. I take it your going to have a problem getting a reference? I would normally advise someone in your position to say that they left because they did not get on with their boss at all and that unfortunatley your departure was acrimonous - consequently you feel it would be better if they did not contact this person as your relationship was very poor. Why would you want to work with them anyway? Lie like everyone else does Just say that you had to leave due to sickness, and now your better you would like to get back on the ladder. If asked all you have to tell them is that you left because of personal reasons, I don't believe you need to go into details. That would be your best bet.. Tell them the same thing you told us. Chances are they won't contact the other company knowing they won't give you a good recommendation anyway. Just tell your side of it and tell them the problem has been resolved. Its best to be honest. Call the HR department at you old place, if they have one. Many companies only give out start date, end date, job title when asked for a reference today - for fear of being sued. Ask the HR dept what their policy is - i.e. will they let on you were sacked. They probably won't, in which case feel free to make up any story you like about why you left. that's a good one.I'm off sick and have been since December.I'm having a battle with the company I'm with(a major high street retailer).I've been with them for 14years.They haven't paid me at all even though I've handed in sick lines.I'm about to enter a legal battle with them as they have broken employment law.I'm still officially employed by them but have been for a few interviews.I'm dreading getting asked for references from my current employer,i don't know if i should tell them what's happening, they might think I'm just a trouble maker or something.i can sympathise with you.good luck.i hope it works out for you. Firstly why were you sick so much? are you well enough to take this new job? I am in management and do look at sickness records, Well after asking yourself will you be able to do this job with little or no absences, providing you dont have to request a reference from the previous company, just say you needed a change and would like to progress in your proffesion and point out that you think working for this new company would be a move upwards. To start off, u have a bad record!!! being sick all the time, and you couldnt produce any medical cert for that..HMMMM...i find this odd..u are at fault and the company has the right ( i support them ) to fire you. Just say that the company was not of my type. I was not getting the oppertunity as i wanted. So I leave that company. |
