Inhouse SEO question...getting hired?

I have been in SEO for 6 years now and I am looking to do SEO in house. My issue is that I won't have my bachelors degree until the end of this year but I still want to jump into inhouse SEO. My question is, in your humble opinion, would you or any other company hire someone with 6 years experience with a proven track record but no degree?

Side note I do own an SEO consulting firm that can be found on the web and has lists of my clients. The rest of my background is in investment sales

PS....This is not me look for a job posting, I just to know if someone would hire me before I graduate. Thanks!!

I don't know about companies, but you can get a job as a freelance SEO without any degrees, especially if you've got a proven track record.

Look at how many "professional" SEO companies boast about their rankings achievements for obscure keyphrases that garner 50 searches a month - they have their testimonials and satisfied clients....

I don't even have a portfolio & I get paid $30-$50/hour for SEO consultation & on-page optimization.

I will be opening up my internet marketing company to the general public this year sometime and I will be hiring a competent SEO to do a lot of the work. I won't even ask if they went to school cuz a degree means nothing to me - it's the real-world experience that counts. In my book, street-smarts outrank book-smarts every single day of the week.

But, that's my opinion.

Hi there

I don't want to disappoint you but i will not employ students as you can't trust the students about the sla and ...
I normally rather to get experienced people. But many companies might employ you once you are graduated as you are young, fresh and talented.

My message doesn't mean that you stop searching to find what you are looking for as it was my idea and many people might think differently.

Take care

hey,

i certainly would consider you if you could prove to me that you know what you are talking about ... for example, if you have been an active member of an seo forum and have offered lots and lots of help there, then you could refer prospective clients to the forum posts you posted for them to see just how well you know and understand seo

this has happened to me at http://www.seo-news.com/cgi-bin/gforum/g... where my nickname is smbotans ... i have referred potential customers to that forum and asked them to 'check me out' ... one customer did and employed me

having been to university myself, i understand that degrees are not the final proof that you know what you are talking about as universities provide mostly theoretical learning and limited practical learning ... so, to me, 6 years practical experience would certainly count for something ... more so than a university degree

you could also put together a folio of your seo accomplishments to establish yourself as an 'expert'

hope this helps

Interesting question. Is there even a particular degree for SEO? They don't teach that at Universities. Of course it helps to have an overall marketing degree but six years of SEO could get you into the doors of a company we would say. Most places do not necessarily check the credentials and providing you have a great past resume and maybe a portfolio of SEO work you have done, not sure it would be much of a problem. Again, SEO is something you learn outside of the doors of a University so I would certainly try my luck and just build up a good case/presentation for yourself.

If you can demonstrate SEO rankings, finding a job in SEO is not hard at all.

The degree requirements for many SEO related jobs are to weed out those who really have no experience but think they can do SEO.
