I need to change my career (teacher)?

where do i begin? are those Avon and Mary Kay companies a good investment?

With your background as a teacher you may want to consider training. It is good business, the pay and benefits are good but it may require you to travel unless you get with a company in a big metropolitan area.
You may not need extensive background in what you train, they have excellent course material. It is more about delivery of the subject matter.
Some ideas are Microsoft office software, english to foreign adults, any software product, internal/audit controls, project management

well, Avon and Mary Kay are selling products and depending on the market it does sell itself. Depending on yourself, if you are not one to walk up to people and sell it then i would advise not. Find something that you want to do and that you like have a passion for it so to speak. Than that is the road you need to take.

Good luck

No, those are pure sales jobs. Basically you sell from home. How about start a freelance writing, editing, and tutoring career? There are many companies that outsource their writing jobs to freelancers. You can charge up to $40/hour for writing and editing. There are some freelance job market where you can create your expertise profile and get jobs. Most of them pay by the hour, some pay by words or page. You should look into that.

If you don't like your current job, get on Monsterjobs.com and post your resume and browse thru the various jobs they have posted in your area. I found my job - billing agent, thru Monster jobs - I had four interviews in one week with employers that saw and liked my resume on there.

Mary Kay and Avon will not get you enough money to not work a second job but they might be a good source of supplemental income.

I am involved in a business that is so much better than Mary Kay or Avon. No sales involved, and it was started by a former teacher. I would be happy to get you more info, just e-mail me at thomas2069@yahoo.com. I quit my factory job of five years and am having a great time.

Do you know anyone that sells either product? Have you tried products from either company. They are really completely different apples and oranges so to speak.

My Mary Kay sales director sold Avon (she was my Avon lady before MK) and didn't make much money however I know people that still sell it and like it. It is a different type of sales you pass out the catalogues and place orders with the company you are a distributor. check on minimum I understand you need to place certain number of orders.
I started building my Mary Kay business about three years ago because I feel in love with the skin care. I am not the sales type and had no intention in selling just wanted the discount. it is the best decision I have made. I love teaching people about skin care and proper application of the products. I would be happy to give you any facts or answer questions but I don't think I'm allow to give you my email or website information.
When making a decision I found a consumable product a smart way to go. research the company and the things that are important to you. I have the freedom and flexibility I wanted and I am making money while hanging out with friend.
As for investment that is a separate issue you may hear people say they were talked into inventory I never had that happen I don't believe people can talk you into anything you don't want to do. The only investment you have to make is the starter kit and you get enough product to do 30 faces plus training materials. Inverntory is optional you can take orders and place orders you don't have ot carry and inventory so don't let anyone tell you do!
One more thing if anyone tell you there isn't a market take a look at answers make up.
Good Luck!!!

I did the same thing (music teacher)!!! Try working from home. I do, for a wonderful company that is a member of the BBB, offers full training, and supports me every step of the way. I set my own hours and answer to no one. If you enjoy helping others, working on the computer, and are interested in making your home a safer place as well, it may be for you.

Mary Kay's Starter Kit is $100, Avon's is $20. Mary Kay's starter kit includes Product that you then have to try to sell. Avon's includes your business materials..you order the product that your customer wants, as they place an order, therefore you are never stuck with inventory that you have to stock.

Avon has multiple earning opportunities. It sells itself! No Inventory, No minimum sales, 10-50% profit.

Let me know if you have any questions!
