Investment Question... Where?

Mornin' folks, I have about $15, 000. Can someone please guide me which market shoud I invest in Canadian or American? Which industry and companies possibly?
I do not expect specific names of companies but please guide as per if ABC company why so, Why XYZ industry. I was thinking of US economy because of dollar rate?

Thanks a bunch

Ok, I recieved few responses, But someone here mentioned Canada over US. Wouldn't it be better with US because of dollar. I am perfectly fine with holding it for one year. Dont expect to 'double' my money but would like a decent return.

The bulk of modern investment theory says that picking stocks based on merit is about as good as throwing darts at a board. It's all about asset allocation. Spread your money around. Don't drop it all into one sector, especially not all into one company. If you're a gambler, however, I recommend searching for a company that will change the world in a green way. Look for a company on the cusp of developing a more efficient way to use solar power, or something. The only problem, these will mostly be startups and will be bought out by energy giants soon enough. Then, you're giving your money to evil people.

dodgy times for investing. but property it has a higher chance to retain value.

Look think about Indian share market its going very high now in these days
you should study about that.

I will advise you that you don't want to go throwing your money into something due to advice you got off here. There are many, many classes you can take, books you can read, and online resources you can tap into. You need to educate yourself on the subject before you put money into it. Or just suck up the service charge and have a company invest for you.

Currently, the best place to invest is India or China.

However, the better of Canada and US is Canada at the moment.

Oil industry is doing great due to rising prices. The financial sector (banks) are also doing great in Canada.

The Fidelity Canada Fund is totally rockin' these days. If you want to go American, I'd do Vanguard Small Caps Fund.
