Please help me find my old 401k? |
I left my previous employer in 2003. I now want to roll it over to my new company's plan. The problem is that I can't find it. I contacted my former employer, and they are now owned my a new company, and had no information on the old company. I tried an unclaimed property search in the state where I lived, as well as the state where the company HQ was located, with no luck. Where do I go from here? Without knowing the company name, or the investment company name, am I out of luck? This is real easy. Get a copy of your Credit History, with your Credit Score. The account will be opened and it will be listed under your SSN...so this will be on your Credit Report and will give you contact and account information for them. So when it comes in, just make the call and have it rolled over. You mean to say you didn't even keep a single account statement of your own money? Contact your state treasurer or the Secretary of State for your state. The first may be able to tell you if its in the Unclaimed Property account yet. The second should be able to tell you what happened to the company. Between those two maybe you can find something. If not, contact a broker. You might try checking with the U.S. Department of Labor database of abandoned 401(k) plans. See the webpage listed below. |
