Should companies in the same industry have approximately same required rate of return on investment projects? No. The rate of return has to be a function of the specific project, not the industry as a whole. The rate of return on your investment projects depends a great deal on many other factors. As long as you hold to your commitments and run a tight control on your budget and all other expenses, you'll see the light at the far end of your investment tunnel. Good Luck. The required rate of return is from the investors perspective. I think you mean the expected return. My opinion is that, using the capital asset pricing model, if the betas for each of the companies in an industry were approximately the same then the expected return would be also. |
