Monetizing on investigation report, which will affect company's stock price?

Situation:
Independent investigative journalist discovers serious invasion of privacy and highly offensive violations of federal laws during his investigation of one of Fortune 500 companies.
The law firm specializing in class action lawsuits is really interested in the case this journalist presented, because basing on primary estimates of the case, it might end up with $10+billion settlement. Since Federal law prohibits lawyers to pay referral fees to non-lawyers, the only way to monetize this information is through helping someone to save money before company's stock plunges, or to make money using the same news for selling it short.
Lawyers confirmed that there is nothing illegal in using investigation report in stock-related operations: all info has been obtained from public sources.
Ironic situation: someone has a "red button", but doesnt have any connection to investments.
Is there a chance to present this material to "right people" before publishing?
what's next step? 10x

Absolutely there is a great market for this information!

Shareholders that hold the largest percentage of a stock would have the most to gain or loose from your information. But be careful, as it may be hard to extract much $ out of it.

People that hold large shares of a company have to report this information, also if you see finance.yahoo.com you can view the largest shareholders. I think you can find more detailed info at edgars.com too.

You may consider short selling the stock, as well. Wouldn鈥檛 a major holder considering selling his holdings drive the price down? So, an idea may be to 1) short the stock, then #2) make this information known to major holders. They would drive down the price, you buy back your shares, and walk away RICH! Ah, if it were only that easy.

Good Luck.
