Looking for information on becoming an independent investment advisor. Looking for a reliable website or information I should be aware of the pro's & con's that an independent investment advisor would need to compare with. Any questions that I should be asking to sound companies that support independent brokers. I have over 21 years of experience in the finance industry and want to go independent, but don't really know much about the independent side of becoming an agent. Need help on deciding what to look for in companies that does support independent brokers/advisors. I'm 7 & 63 license and also aware that I'll need my 65 to become an advisor but that's not a problem. Will be currently studying for the 65 w/i the next 3 mo. Thanks ahead of time for any reliable info. to help me make this decision.

For someone with 21 years of experience, you seem to be very confused with terminology. Advisors, brokers, and agents are not the same, as you seem to imply by using the terms interchangably. Further, there is no such thing as an "independent broker"...

Basically, you need to ask yourself two questions: (1) how much client money you raise to manage? and (2) what sort of fees do you plan on assessing? The former depends on your selling skills, the latter, on your investment strategy (indexing will probably pay you under 0.1% a year, hedge funds could pay as much as 1.5% plus performance fees). Multiply assets under management times fee rate; this is your annual revenue potential. Compare it with your cost estimates and see if you stand any chance of being profitable...
