Baker company stock is selling at $42 per share when Carlos sells 200 shares of stock short. today Carlos buys the stock at a price of $45 to cover his position. ignoring trading costs, what is the dollar return on Carlos' investment?

"Sell short" means that you borrow some shares to sell.
"Cover" means that you buy some shares so as to return them to where you borrow them from.

When you sell short at 42 for 200 shares, you get $8400.
But, when you buy to cover at 45 for 200 shares, you pay $9000.

Therefore, you have a net loss of $600 (ignoring trading cose, and the interest of borrowing shares).

carlos gets 600 little tiny dollars!

he is losing money congrates to carlos for being a unwise investor ,if he lost that means someone who is already rich put another 600 bucks in his pocket

Yk's answer is correct!! I couldn't have explained it any better myself.
