What are the meanings of the terms 'investment held for trading' and 'investment available for sale'.

An investment held for trading - held with a view to sell them short term, examples are finance derivatives (unless hedges) or foreign currency , in other words your going to trade them in the short term, such as a retail business might have additional capital after Christmas, so the company may decide to invest this short term, with a view to realising their investment in 6 to 5 months

Investments available for sale are available for sale

Both of the above are held at fair value, but treatment of any gains or losses for items held for sale is slightly different from those held for trading,....maybe that might be too much detail
