Tax Season is over, what did your accountant cost?

I had just sent in my taxes and received a bill from my accountant. Married filing joint, some investments, IRA, state taxes and federal taxes. Most of the information was filled out by me online for him. My accountant charged $500 for services. I'm feeling that's a bit high, any thoughts?

Does married filing joint mean that you should be paying double the average fee($208 average 1p)

Husbands wages, SSDI, Retirement disability, Student Loan interest deduction, IRA contribution,,,, cost to prepare returns both state and Federal? -0- I did them myself and I did not efile

you got bent over and road hard, i paided 120

accountant??

$500.???? LOLOLOLOLOLOL again

Tax season isn't over yet. Also, fees depend on the complexity of your return (yours sounds fairly simple), the reputation of the firm and possibly the area where you live.

$500? Mid-range. Perhaps there was some consulting portion involved.

Re: Additional details. Not really. A CPA firm will possibly charge slightly more for a married couple, but not double. I'm not sure about places like H&R Block though.

Using turbo tax online, it would have cost you about $60

that could be right, it all depends on how much stuff was included and how much research time it took. I'd need more info, like did the investments need a Sch D? any children? what state? and do you live in a city? Did you contribute to the IRA or take money out of it?
It's not the data input that costs so much it's the time spent.
