Do special joint mortgages between parents and children exist in the US similar to those I found for the UK?

I live in an area that is very attractive for real estate investment. My parents would like to help me get my foot in the door with a first home purchase. However, I would not be able to afford a mortgage in this market without additional help. I have found information regarding special joint mortgages between parents and their children, but only in the UK. Do these exist in the US? If so, what are some things to consider re tax considerations, etc. If not, is there something similar?

Yes, you can have a co-signer for your mortage similar to your car...I had the same issue when I went for mine, I made enough money, just diddn't have enough history with big purchases. They were happy I diddn't have any credit card debt...I avoided getting credit cards at all costs but only have 3/5 years on my car loan for history...My parents signed with me, that helped me get the mortage.
