What is investment consulting and retirement consulting?

Could someone describe the jobs / day-to-day activities of what invesment and retirement consultants do? Or anything interesting about it. I am applying for an internship with Mercer in these two division and would like some information from anyone who knows about them. Thank you.

Investment consultants typically work directly with the investments...determining what investment is appropriate for the respective clients. Trying to maximize their income while limiting exposure. Retirement Consultants typically work with retirement plans. Their jobs is to ensure that the plans are compliant with IRS regulations. Bottom tier individuals work more with the individual processess like payrolls, loans, distributions, transfers etc etc. While seniors spend more time on compliance issues and plan designs....

Why not go to their website and read everything that you can? Then do a search on them.
