Well Paying Career Options?

I'm currently a university student with no idea of what field to go into. I want a well paying career, and right now I'm taking the required courses to become a Chartered Accountant.

I was hoping that someone could provide me with other career options that are available, that pay well and are realistic (not that being a rock star wouldn't be great...).

Preferably, the career wouldn't require more than 50-60 hours a week (so investment banker is out of the question...).

All I've been able to come up with is Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer and Accountant... so I need some help! Thanks!

In response to Kim, the reason why I'm asking this question so I get to learn about other options and hopefully find something I actually like. Right now I don't know enough about all the careers available, so I do not know what I would be happy doing.

Having said that, money is a very important factor to me. I don't feel it's unrealistic or ignorent to look for a job that pays well. It's true money isn't everything, but it does make a difference in the type of like you and your children live.

Have you considered insurance sales as a career option?

Not only does it pay very, very well ($100,000-$250,000/year is easily within reach), but it provides you with an opportunity to cultivate lasting friendships with people from all walks of life.

The hours are decent, no nights-weekends unless you choose.

And best of all, residual income!

You may not realize that every time you pay your car/health or house insurance, your agent gets a commission. Every month-as long as you keep your policy! Over a period of time, that can be a substantial amount of income.

Your choices should be based on your interests and what you can do the best at, not how much money you can make from it. It's highly unrealistic and ignorant to get into a career field just for money.

What's more important to you in the long run? Making 70k a year but miserable? Or say 40k a year but happy?

UPDATE:

Re-read my statement. I said it's ignorant and unrealistic to get into a career ONLY for how well it pays. If you're seeking career options that will make you happy and coincidentally pay well, that's nothing bad. But if you're only in it for the money, then it becomes ignorant.
