Where do you thing interest rates are going?

I want to know what others think about the future movement of interest rates & why? I have not been keeping up with the investment arena for a while, except to notice that the rate I can get on 9 mo - 1 year CD's has steadliy declined over the past year. Performance on my other investments has not changed dramatically & it seems mortgage rates are going up? So why are the CD rates lower than they were a year ago? The lowest rate on my CD's that have matured in the last year was 5.25%. Now the rates are at 5% (most of that drop in rate occurred in last two months). Any opinions? Thanks.

I could offer you an opinion, but you shouldn't invest on it. The market (millions of opinions) is the best predictor of interest rates. The reason 1-5 year CD rates are less than they were a year ago is because the market thinks that rates 1-5 years out will be less than they thought a year ago.

Interest rates are not going anywhere till fall. CD and other money market products as well as mortgage rates tend to follow the direction of tresuaries, which follow supply & demand and economic developments/environment.
