What's the best way to use your Credit Card?

I'm trying to keep track of all my spending. Made a budget but was too lazy to keep track of all my spending. (It takes true dedication to log in all of your daily cash spending.)

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have a set of Credit Card Designated for a specific spending. I'm thinking about 6 credit card would do. Is this normal?

Budget:

30% = Rent
15% = Food
05% = Entertainment
25% = Miscellaneous
25% = Investments

I'm planning that one credit card would be for Rent, the other, Food, ... you get the idea.

Please help. How do you use your credit card? What's your model?

i use one credit card (discover) it gives me a cash reward and the statement tells me where i spend the money!!!

Most landlords will not accept a credit card.

You only need one or two. Collect the points, dollar rebates, etc.

Pay them off every month and you don't have to worry about interest rates. With points/rebates, you'll actually get paid to use the credit card.

stay away from credit cards. they make all the rules and can change the rules anytime they want. just read the fine print.

Banks spend millions brainwashing people into thinking they need credit cards and a high ( I Love Debt ) score to make it in todays world. Total crap!
pay as you go and you will win with money.

Debt Free is Definitely the way to be!

Please don't get 6 credit cards just to track your spending. No, that's not normal. You can do it all with one card.

You'll have to learn to be diligent not to overspend if your plan is to track spending that you used to do with cash. It's WAY easier to overspend if you use credit. You'll always think more carefully when handing over money.

If you think you know how much you spend on food each month, take a weekly allowance of cash from your checking account and use that to purchase food. That way, you'll be able to see exactly what you have left for the weekend by Friday afternoon.

When you get your credit card statement, you can use different colored highlighters to color code each different category of expenses. Total them up each month and keep them on a spreadsheet either on your computer or in a notebook.

As already mentioned, use a card that gives you reward points. And be sure to pay it in full each month to avoid finance charges.

Your 25% for Misc. charges is a bit broad - see it you can break that into categories like: utilities, gas, car expenses, insurance, clothing, gifts, donations, etc.

Your plan to track your expenses and put so much into investments is great. Keep up the good work!
