Money market funds, though not insured, are relatively safe vehicles to put cash into. They pay from 4-5%, some have checkwriting privileges, others need a minimum deposit amount.

You can get risk-free returns of 5-5.5% with 1 year CDs at most banks and credit unions; these are federally insured.

To get into the 6% range, you can buy corporate bonds. The highest rated ones AAA, AA A, etc now yield about 6-6.5%

You can also consider buying CEFs ( Closed End Funds ) on the stock market. These pay dividends up to the 10% range, but are much, much more risky than MMAs, bonds or CDs.

being the owner of a start up business myself, i have had to really check out investors. as mentioned below, the lower the % of return, the lower the risk. You may consider Forex Trading. Og course. this is VERY difficult way, but if are ready to spant a lot of time and really serious about trading, you can get huge return. This is not easy money, but very interesting and profitable.
