I have an idea that I think would change the world. How do i get an investor?

first of all: patent it. there are lawyers/engineers specialized in this, ie not only patenting but making a follow up, observing the market and protect your interests.

then: contact any risk capital entity or business angels, there are plenty in US. some business angel may help you in patenting, too.

Go to a lawyer who helps people protect intellectual property rights. He or she should be able to help you protect your idea, as well as connect you with venture capital people, if your idea is for real.

What is the idea ?

Approach someone, or a corporation, that specializes in things related to your invention. But, before you show it to anyone, get it copyrighted so that it doesnt get stolen by someone else. Once youve done that, then start contacting people who can possible invest in your invention.
