Would it be a good idea to put "Independent Investor" on your resume?

It is sort of like a second job, working for yourself.

No, that doesn't belong. It is like saying you have rental property it has nothing to do with your job.

I have made mention of this while in an interview, but I would be cautious that a prospective employer may be planning to touch for investment that you may not be ready to make, but pressured by the job offer.

so it does depend on who who you want to attract with your resume. Is being an independent investor something that adds value to the job you are trying to get?

Also, if it's on your resume the company can as questions that they normally would not be able to ask.

Also, if you are successful as an "Independent Investor" why are you looking for a job?

I would put it under "Future Objectives" and list it as "Continue building investment accounts."

The trick with resumes, I think, is to make them sound somewhat classy, but not too overblown. If you claim you are building investments, you better have an investment account and some kind of plan to keep it going.

Whatever you put in the resume, it needs to interest the people hiring you. You also need to be ready to explain what your claims mean and it needs to sound reasonable and be true.

Many employers might think that your purpose of applying for the job was to get inside info, if you had independent investor listed in such a way.

I would ONLY put this on your resume or application if (1) you are applying for a job where those skills are relevant, or (2) there was an extensive period of time (say, more than about 4 months) during which time you were not working anywhere but you were supporting yourself with your investments. That's a lot better than lying on the couch watching TV all day, but otherwise it's probably not relevant.
