In a two-for one stock split, an investor who owns 150 share before the split will on- after the sprit?

In a two-for-one split you end up with two shares for every one you had, so if you start with 150, you will end up with 300. The price of each share will be cut in half so the total value of your holdings will not change. For example, if you have 150 shares of stock that is selling for $40 per share, you have a total value of $6000. After the split takes effect, you will have 300 shares and the stock will initially sell for $20 per share, still a total value of $6000.

Hi there,

In my understanding which could be totally wrong.

You should have 300 shares.

Cheers, ToNy!

300 shares. The value of each share will initially be half what it was before the split so your portfolio value will remain unchanged.

2 for 1 is not a split .. it's a consolidation.. so for every 2 you had, you now have one... but the intial price per share left over should be doubled... but then the market takes over and watch it fall in value
