What is the best strategy a small time investor can take to profit from the visa IPO?

What is the best strategy a small time investor can take to profit from the visa IPO?

Its going to be tough to get in on the IPO. In-demand IPOs like visa tend to be snapped up by institutional investors and remaining stock is allocated to sales offices of the brokerage firms. So unless you're in your brokers good graces you're not getting in on the IPO

The stock may be played high in the first couple of days. It may be worth your while to wait a month if you're interested in buying.

Don't fret about getting in at the very ground floor (heck the stock could go down after the IPO). Just buy and hold.

IPO's are generally a bad investment (despite all the hype) but it's especially a bad time to get in on Visa. First its nearly impossible for the average investor to figure out a fair value of a stock before its public. Take a look at Discover (DFS). Discover tanked after the IPO and has continued sinking. The housing market will hurt the credit card companies. When the choice is to pay the rising adjustable mortgage or the unsecured credit cards, the mortgage will win. The home equity piggy bank is also drying up. I would give it some time before you buy.
