How do i find an investor for my new business?

How do i find an investor for my new business?

The easiest way would be to talk to family members and friends if they are interested in investing in your own business. These people know you and will most likely invest in your business, not so much because you have the best idea there is, but because they want to support you.

Then expand that to see if anyone in your community may be willing to support your new business. Perhaps acquaintances in church, your accountant or lawyer, banker or anyone else.

You can then see if your business will attract angel investors. But you need to have a formal business plan before presenting the business idea, and practice your elevator pitch (describe in 1-2 sentence what your business is all about and why they should invest in it). Business 2.0 http://money.cnn.com/2006/02/28/magazine... has a very good article on angel investors, what they typically look for, what kind of investments they support, etc.

Here are some places where angel investors come and those looking for funding can come and pitch their business plans. Be sure to have a strong business plan and describe what makes your business idea stand apart:

Angel Capital Association http://www.angelcapitalassociation.org
Angel's Forum http://www.angelsforum.com
Band of Angels http://www.bandangels.com
Common Angels http://www.commonangels.com
Keiretsu Forum http://www.k4forum.com
Launchpad Venture Group http://www.launchpadventuregroup.com
New World Angels http://www.newworldangels.com
New York Angels http://www.newyorkangels.com
Robin Hood Ventures http://www.robinhoodventures.com (charges $250)

Advertise. You are very vague. How much money do you want the investor to pay? What type of business is it? See if you can place posting at a college.

Make up postcard size business cards advertising. Cheapest place is www.vistaprint.com. If you purchase from them always pick slow shipping because it is just as fast as the rest except overnight. If you use them and are able to put in who sent you please say Susan Baker.

If you are individual, who has an entrepreneurial spirit, you can easily get a loan offered by the federal government. This loan allows you to start a small business. The department of Small Business Administration (SBA) acts as a guarantor for these loans. These loans are provided by banks or financial institutions. Very rarely, the SBA provides the loan directly.
