Investor for fantastic new business idea needed? How would i find a backer without losing my idea to them?

I have an idea for a new business that should be a real money maker but I do not have the capital for startup even though it shouldnt be that much. Is there any place where I could look for money men? And how do i interest someone without just giving them the idea and watch them make all the money and blow me off? Thanks

Step 1: Make a business plan. This should set out what you want to do, who you sell it to and how, costs, expected revenues etc. The only thing left out should be where the finance comes from.

Step 2: File a copy with your lawyers, so there is a record of this being your idea. Not a massive protection, but if its a simple idea, how were you going to protect it once you'd started anyway?

Step 3: discuss the business plan with an accountant, you will be charged but will get good feedback and suggestions for sources of finance appropriate to the risks invovled. They will likely have contacts with potential investors.

Step 4: Depending on the accountant's advice, take the business plan to a bank, venture capitalist or whoever they suggest, to raise finance. You can also raise money from friends and family if you can persuade them. It depends on the level of risk and return, security you can offer, and the overall cost as to who is most appropriate.
